It doesn’t matter if you are working on a film shoot or a theatrical production it is always essential to have a MASTER PROP LIST, (I generally like to break mine down by scene) and that you check off each item on the list as you set the stage or prep for a shoot.
What is a prop? It is anything you will “use” in the scene that is not part of your costume or the set (setting). If you are reading a book, drinking from a bottle, talking on a cell phone, smoking a cigarette – the book, bottle, phone, cigarette and lighter are all props.
From time to time there is an occasion when someone loses track of a prop and the production suffers for it. I have worked on shows where a prop was forgotten to be pre set on stage and the scene is disrupted…
